Text Box: Our branch is filled with phenomenal women who have done and are doing great things with their lives. Each of us has in some way blazed a trail that will make life easier for women in future generations. From small inroads to seminal events,  AAUW women consistently strive to create and promote equity. One particularly noteworthy woman is our branch's own Zel Brook.
Text Box: Prior to Title IX, Zel ran cross country at the University of Oregon under Bill Bowerman (Nike founder). At that time, there was no sanctioned track competition for women in the Pac-8 (as the Pac-10 was known back then). Zel never had the opportunity to run in a formal meet while at the U of O.
Text Box: Zel finally was given that chance. She was honored at a Pac-10 cross country meet at Oregon State University in October. The meet was dedicated to her. When the meet was finished, Zel ran the course. She said, "It was absolutely one of the most wonderful things that I have ever done because I never got the chance to be on a team to do this type of competition."

Congratulations Zel!
