AAUW’s Educational Foundation Programs

Text Box: AAUW's Educational Foundation offers many programs to empower women and girls. Here are just a few:
Sister-to-Sister Summits, Summit Follow-Up, and Sisters-in-Action – Sister-to-Sister offers teen girl a forum to talk about their generation's challenges and plan actions for improving their world. While Sister-to-Sister Text Box: provides a forum for adolescent girls to discuss topics that concern them, Sisters in Action, funded by the AAUW Educational Foundation, extends the work beyond a one-day summit, providing girls with multiple opportunities to address and negotiate the many issues that they face on a day to day basis.
Tech Check – Tech Check helps schools help girls become technology-Text Box: competent.
Transitions Conferences for Women – These one-day events ease women's educational decision-making at key points in their lives.

Text Box: The party for which you generously contributed for the children at Yatima, Our Lady of Mercy (the orphanage in Kenya) was held on Nov 29th, 2007. Thirteen children were present; six were absent, but all the children received presents. Members of the orphanage staff were there, as well as church executives.
The menu included roast & fried goat meat, beef stew with vegetables, mashed irio, chapattis, rice, kachumbari, juice, biscuits, and sweets.
The children received black shoes and Text Box: personal clothing items appropriate for each of them. There were nine boys and 10 girls; the youngest boy and girl were seven years old.
The e-mail I received stated the cost of everything and included these words:
"In a joyful procession, we led our guests to the self-service table. Everyone ate to their fill, and our children were very excited.
"The gifts were presented to them by Fr. David Mucheke, who celebrated mass.
… [With] all the children in a line, one of them read a speech Text Box: on their behalf, whose aim was to thank all stakeholders for their well being.
"On behalf of these vulnerable kids, we say thank you. They really appreciated."
I want to thank to all AAUW branch members who contributed to Christmas in May. The total amount sent to Yatima for the party was $400.
